Today on Colorado Edition: we鈥檒l learn about a letter sent to state leaders about education during a pandemic. Plus, we鈥檒l hear another update on the investigation into how ketamine is used in our state.
How Ketamine Is Used
Ketamine is a powerful sedative that鈥檚 usually administered in a hospital. But, as we鈥檝e reported, medics have given it to hundreds of Coloradans during episodes with the police when someone displays signs of 鈥渆xcited delirium.鈥 This is the reason authorities gave for administering ketamine to Elijah McClain in Aurora.
碍鲍狈颁鈥檚 Michael de Yoanna and Rae Solomon have discovered that it鈥檚 likely being vastly overused 鈥 exposing people unnecessarily to complications associated with the drug.
You can find Michael and Rae's past reporting on ketamine use here and here.
Colorado Schools Cope With Pandemic
We start today with education and a letter sent to state leaders from over 40 advocacy groups across Colorado. The letter, led by Colorado Children鈥檚 Campaign, calls on state leaders to prioritize opening schools, rather than opening businesses.
The letter goes on to say that while children aren鈥檛 as likely to suffer from the virus鈥 serious health complications, they are more vulnerable to secondary effects of the pandemic 鈥 conditions like hunger, homelessness and poverty. joined us to talk about the letter, and the state of education.
