Today on Colorado Edition: We look at how gun policy is shaping Colorado鈥檚 senate race. We鈥檒l also hear about a post office in Bellvue working to deliver mail through dire straits. Plus, we鈥檒l learn more about the world of COVID long-haulers.

Gun Control And Colorado鈥檚 Senate Race

Groups advocating for both stricter and looser gun control measures have long been a source of political spending. And this year, Colorado鈥檚 senate race between incumbent Republican Sen. Cory Gardner and his Democratic challenger, former Gov. John Hickenlooper, is becoming a big source of spending for groups advocating for gun control legislation.

Jesse Paul reported on what we can learn from this example for the Colorado Sun, and he joined us to discuss what he found. You can read his reporting .

Amendment 76

In these final weeks leading up to the election, we鈥檝e been talking about some of the 11 ballot questions Colorado voters will have a say on. Today we're going to look at Amendment 76: the citizenship qualification of voters.

Hunter Knapp, a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Colorado Law School, has been looking at the potential impacts of this amendment, and he joined us to break them down.

Delivering Mail During A Wildfire

Most of us are familiar with at least part of the U.S. Postal Service motto: 鈥淣either snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.鈥 The Cameron Peak Fire in Larimer County has certainly put that to the test. But as 萝莉少女鈥檚 Matt Bloom reports, evacuated residents are still getting their mail.

COVID-19 Long Haulers

The coronavirus pandemic has killed 1,998 Coloradans, and infected almost 80,000 in our state. President Donald Trump has urged the public not to be afraid of the virus and has pointed to his own mild symptoms and rapid recovery from the disease to suggest that there is nothing to fear. Meanwhile, a subset of COVID-19 survivors continues to experience serious symptoms and effects from the disease months after being infected. These so-called COVID-19 long-haulers paint a picture that鈥檚 very different from President Trump鈥檚 optimistic outlook.

To help us understand the lingering, long-term effects of COVID-19,we spoke Dr. Sean O鈥橪eary, a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Children鈥檚 Hospital Colorado.

Our producer, Rae Solomon, also spoke with Chelsey Baker Hauk, another COVID long-hauler for this story.
