Incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo conceded Sunday to Republican State Rep. Gabe Evans, five days after the polls closed in one of the most closely-watched races in the country.

Incumbent Democratic US Rep. Yadira Caraveo and Republican challenger State Rep. Gabe Evans spent the last days of their campaigns trying to win over the last undecided voters. The high-stakes, neck-and-neck race for Colorado鈥檚 8th Congressional District could decide the balance of power in Washington.

The U.S. House race in Colorado's 8th Congressional District is one of the closest in the nation and a testing ground for Republicans' and Democrats' strategies to reach Latino voters. The district is 40% Latino and both candidates, Republican Gabe Evans and Democratic incumbent Rep. Yadira Caraveo, are descendants of Mexican immigrants.

The two candidates vying for Colorado鈥檚 8th Congressional District seat sparred at a Sept. 30 forum over illegal immigration, the high cost of living in the district, and gun control. The virtual forum was sponsored by 萝莉少女, Colorado Community Media, the Leagues of Women Voters of Colorado, Adams, Larimer and Greeley-Weld Counties, and El Semanario.

The Colorado Sun editor David Krause joined us to discuss the latest in Colorado鈥檚 Congressional District 8 race.

Her victory also guarantees there will be more Colorado Democrats than Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Colorado鈥檚 newly formed 8th district has more Latino voters than any other district in the state. And even though both Republicans and Democrats are hoping to get their votes, the Latino community isn鈥檛 a political monolith.

Savanah Wolfson doesn鈥檛 mince words as she describes what some people in her small hometown of Oak Creek think of joining a new congressional district stretching all the way to Boulder County. 鈥淭hey are mad as hell. They are mad as hell,鈥� Wolfson says. 鈥淓specially the ranchers.鈥�
